About us

The Desert Elite Lacrosse program is focused on providing our youth with the rewarding opportunity of participating in youth sports and Lacrosse in particular.  Our direction for Lacrosse is to promote the recreational value of lacrosse while emphasizing fun and respect for the sport.  We are proud to introduce the sport of Lacrosse to our community and the DFAC families joining the popular Basketball and Soccer programs. Lacrosse is currently the fastest youth sport in the United States and DFAC is excited to be part of the action.

DFAC Lacrosse started in the Fall of 2013 by running clinics for boys and girls in grades 3-5 in the North Phoenix Area.

In January of 2014, DFAC launched the Desert Foothills Lacrosse Academy, running 3 Phases ending on March 29, 2014.

In April of 2014, Desert Foothills Lacrosse launched our Spring League.  Skills training sessions we held during the week and small sided recreational games were played on Saturday afternoons ending in May.

Our Desert Elite Winter/Spring Lacrosse program in 2015 is when competitive teams were formed for the first time and played competitive games and tournaments in January, February and March.

The Summer Season brings the Summer Skills training sessions and "Box" Lacrosse, with some sessions held inside at the Ice Den, and some outside at Casey's Sports World.

In the Fall we train to prepare our players for league and tournament play with the Winter session starting in December.  Sessions start in August and will end in November. Training will include some scrimmage games as well as Chumash.

The Winter/Spring Season kicks off in December and ends in April.  Boys and Girls teams will have 30+ practices and play 15 - 25 games each.  Boys teams will play in the AYL (Arizona Youth Lacrosse) and enter the Lax 4 Life tournament in December.

The Future of Desert Foothills Lacrosse?  In the coming seasons, we expect to add younger kids, starting in kindergarten and expanding to the High School age group.  We envision full recreational leagues for all levels, competitive club teams competing in local competitive leagues and tournaments in Arizona and neighboring states and getting a High School Lacrosse program in our local High Schools.  We plan to grow the sport of Lacrosse in the North Phoenix area and help to make is accessible to anyone who wants to participate.

What is 'Box' Lacrosse?

Box is played 6 v 6 off the boards of a hockey rink, with smaller goals, bigger goalies, no long poles, tighter space and a much faster transition combined to equal increased skill at all levels.  It’s more like basketball and hockey than it is field lacrosse.  The benefits of Box lacrosse to the developing player is well documented and evident with Denver University’s box oriented offense domination in the NCAA, winning the National Championship in 2015.  What is less talked about is that Box, when played properly, is actually safer than field lacrosse, which is a great change of pace for field-only players...and a lot of fun!

USBOXLA provides a common structure and governance for nationwide youth Box lacrosse leagues, tournaments, and travel teams.  Additionally, USBOXLA provides support and member benefits to Indoor Sport Facility Owners/Managers, league operators, coaches and referees to assist their Box lacrosse efforts.

USBOXLA Member Benefits Include
· Liability and property damage insurance for Sport Facilities, Box lacrosse league operators, coaches and referees.
· Ability to play the game of Box Lacrosse without compromising the integrity of game plays while ensuring the safety of its participants.
· Player excess medical insurance and liability insurance coverage.
· Official Box Lacrosse training materials, Official USBOXLA Rule and Situational hand book and certification for coaches and referees.
